The Seventh Film Club Post!

When the semester was over, I planned to fly back to China. I wanted to watch some movies on the plane to avoid getting bored during the long flight. My classmates recommended a TV show called "ID: Gangnam Beauty" to me, and they thought it was really good. So, I watched it on the plane.
The drama revolves around a Korean girl who is bullied by her classmates due to her appearance until she goes to college. Initially, she dared to fight back, but she gradually lost it as the bullying continued. She even contemplated suicide, but the hero's mother saved her. After graduating from high school, the heroine's mother decided to take her for a facelift so that she would no longer be bullied. However, this led to new problems, which the heroine and the hero eventually faced together.
What I liked most about this drama was the part about female resistance. Despite facing harassment from her seniors at the beginning of her college career, the heroine resolutely resisted. Similarly, when others verbally attacked her, she fearlessly admitted to having undergone plastic surgery. She used to be overly concerned about others' opinions. Still, through a series of events, she became stronger and more determined to stand firm in her beliefs, disregarding the negative opinions of others.
Apart from the heroine, there is another group of girls in the drama who also dare to defy norms. They become furious when male seniors decide to alter the waiters' uniforms without their permission, changing them from pants to short skirts. This anger reaches its peak when the male seniors mock them for their figures. The group firmly believes that women can be whatever they want to be and that no one should judge or verbally attack them based on their appearance. Through their efforts, the boys come to understand that ridiculing a girl's body or clothing and using a fixed standard of beauty to judge others is unacceptable.
Last but not least, my favorite character is the hero's mother. She has been considered beautiful since childhood, bringing her praise and advantages but has also become a constraint for her. After marrying the hero's father, she was not allowed to pursue a career of her own. She was expected to be a good wife and mother, essentially becoming a decorative object for her husband's family. However, she refused to live her life this way. She believed she could take care of her family while also pursuing her career. This decision was strongly opposed by the hero's father and caused conflict with the hero's mother. Eventually, she left home and encountered the heroine contemplating suicide. I highly support and admire the courage and determination of the hero's mother. She never forgot her needs, desires, and what confined her. She contemplated in the drama that her beauty had been a constraint, and she believed that if she looked more ordinary, she would have had a simpler and purer journey toward pursuing her dreams.
Overall, I love the variety of women portrayed in this drama, and the situations they face are relatable and applicable to different parts of life. Changing the minds of those who create difficulties for us may be challenging, but we can keep resisting and remain true to our original intentions. The show also encourages us not to have body or appearance anxiety but to be courageous and strive to be the best versions of ourselves.
Eliminating malice from the world is extremely difficult, but with the courage to resist, there is always hope to protect ourselves and everyone who suffers from the malice of others.
